Orchestra Crossover Project

In February 2019 Thomas Rimes will conduct concerts with the Neue Philharmonie Westfallen to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Musikschule Gelsenkirchen. These concerts will feature a selection of well-known pop songs specially arranged for piano solo, orchestra and rock band and will feature several outstanding former students of the school as guest vocalists. 

Opera Premieres in Germany

In the first half of 2019 Thomas will conduct the premieres of new productions of Weill's "The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny" and Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" at the Musiktheater im Revier, Germany.

Conducting in China

June 3-8, 2018: Shanghai visit. Thomas will be making his conducting debut in Shanghai, China leading a symphonic concert with the Shanghai Conservatorium Orchestra. During his visit to Shanghai he will also give masterclasses with students from the Conservatorium's Middle School.

Compositions

Thomas is continuing to compose music and make studio recordings of his new musical, O.T.O., based on Shakespeare's "Othello".

Klein Zaches genannt Zinnober

September 2018: Klein Zaches genannt Zinnober - Thomas will be musical director and conductor for the revival of the world's first "Steam Punk Opera", for which he was orchestrator and co-composer for the Musiktheater im Revier's World Premiere production in 2015.

50-50

April - July 2018: 50-50 - Thomas will appear as pianist and bandleader for several performances of this musical revue show at the Musiktheater im Revier. These performances were added by popular demand following several sold out performances in late 2017.

L'elisir d'amore

April - July 2018: L'elisir d'amore - Thomas will appear as musical director and conductor for the Musiktheater im Revier's production of Donizetti's opera buffa.

Der Vetter aus Dingsda

February - July, 2018: Der Vetter aus Dingsda - Thomas will appear as musical director and conductor for the Musiktheater im Revier's sold-out production of Künneke's beloved operetta.
